Risperdal® Side Effect Lawyers Discuss Dangers of the Anti-Psychotic Drug

While taking medications can be effective in curing our medical conditions, taking certain drugs may put users at risk of suffering adverse health events. One such medication is the anti-psychotic drug, Risperdal®.

The drug is used to treat a number of conditions, including:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Irritability in the Autistic

Researchers issued warnings against using the drug though after it was discovered that taking the medication can lead to a condition known as Gynecomastia. The condition is identified by the development of abnormally large breasts in young boys and adolescents.

More recently though, another form of the drug was recalled by manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson, after mold contamination was discovered in certain lots of Risperdal® Consta. According to an article from The Wall Street Journal, officials say that using the contaminated medication could put patients who have compromised immune systems at risk of developing a serious infection. Roughly 5,000 vials of the drug were affected by the recall.

Such risks of injury and disease leave many patients what actions and rights they have if they are harmed by a medication prescribed to them by a doctor. The law firm’s team  explains patients may have a right to hold those responsible for their injuries liable for damages, but the process for doing so can be quite complex. That’s why the firm suggests victims discuss their legal rights with an attorney immediately.
